While the geographical proximity of Aus to Indonesia may be one reason to maintain & further develop a positive relationship with Indonesia, it is questionable that Indonesia should be our key Asian strategic relationship. As outlined in your article Tom there have been on-going interactions aimed at furthering trade, political & cultural agreements-these are wise strategies. China however offers Australia greater opportunites for our building our economic growth & for undertaking a leadership role in Western-Asian relations.

    • Couldn’t agree more. China is the main place to be. What Indonesia have to offer in strategic terms, like I said in the piece is pretty much nil.

      Maintaining other ties like we have with South Korea and Japan also somewhat important even though Japan is waning.
